兰坪-思茅盆地中段的石登-小格拉一带，发育一套石炭-二叠纪含火山岩地层，与周边地质体多呈断裂接触，并且化石较少，因而以往地层划分和时代归属意见不一。在1∶5万区调中新采获早石炭世牙形石和晚二叠世植物、腕足类化石，发现石炭纪和二叠纪地层之间为不整合接触，因此将其划分为早石炭世石登组和晚二叠世羊八寨组。
란평-사모분지중단적석등-소격랍일대，발육일투석탄-이첩기함화산암지층，여주변지질체다정단렬접촉，병차화석교소，인이이왕지층화분화시대귀속의견불일。재1∶5만구조중신채획조석탄세아형석화만이첩세식물、완족류화석，발현석탄기화이첩기지층지간위불정합접촉，인차장기화분위조석탄세석등조화만이첩세양팔채조。
A sequence of Carboniferous－Permian volcanic rock-bearing strata is developed in Shideng－Xiaogela area in the central part of the Lanping－Simao basin． It is mostly in fault contact with surrounding geological bodies and contains scarce fossils； therefore， there were divergent views as to its stratigraphic division and age assignment in the past． The Early Carboniferous conodont fossils and Late Permian plant and brachiopod fossils collected in the 1∶50000 regional survey show an unconformity between the Carboniferous and Permian． So it is divided into the Early Carboniferous Shideng Formation and Late Permian Yangbazhai Formation．
