Stares quo of Guangzhou city's water sources including surface and ground waters is analyzed and the problems are posed in this paper, such as water pollution, sea water intrusion during dry season and others threatening the drinking water safety of the whole city. To alleviate the precarious conditions, measures are proposed, among others, planning and building an emergency water supply project based on the municipal ground water source.
