中国古典园林是仿自然山水格局的景观类型，是以追求自然精神境界为最终和最高目的的艺术形态，不管是采取循序渐进的空间序列，还是小中见大的表现手法，都是要达到“虽由人作，宛自天开”的审美意趣。这个自然情趣，还有另外一层含义，就是讲究人与自然的和谐统一，这恰恰与西方现代景观设计中生态设计思想的发展方向相吻合。研究中西园林中指导造园设计的哲学思想和设计理念，并从不同的视角去体会和应用，肯定能对我们现在的园林设计有所启迪。

The Chinese classical garden, which taken the pursuit of natural spirit as the highest goal, is characteristic with its imitation of the natural scenery such as waters and mountains. No matter whether it used the method of presenting the spatial sequence which adopts proceeds in an orderly way, or by sees the big in the small, it ultimate purpose is to build gardens which are made by human beings but look like a divine creation. This natural appeal, also contains the concept of emphasizing the harmony and unification between the human and natural surroundings for which is the very concept of ecological design adopted by western landscape design in recent years. Studies on the philosophy and design ideas which Chinese gardens and Western gardens contain, we can definitely benefit by the inspiration in it and thus helps to our present landscape design.
