This paper makes a statistical analysis to the failures ofactuators of 110~500kV SF6 circuit breakers in Chinese power system during 1989 to 1997. It also analyses the factors that influence the operational reliability of actuators. It then introduces development and features of the breaking principles of SF6 circuit breaker with its operating mechanism. Finally, it discusses the ways to improve the reliability of actuators and the issues to be noticed when it is applicated.
