Effective interfacial area is an important parameter in thesimulation of catalytic distillation process by using the nonequilibrium stage rate model. Under gas and liquid flowing countercurrently through the catalyst bed within a distillation column, the effective interfacial area was measured by a chemical method in which CO2 in the air was analyzed by Na2CO3-NaHCO3 buffer solution with AsO2-as catalyst. The surface renewal theory proposed by Danckwerts was applied satisfactorily for data processing.
