In order to detect the eroding and incrustation of the petrochemical pipe during operation in fieldwork, the scanner must be small and light, and has good shielding. In the design the gamma ray source of 300 mci Cs is used ,and the detectors of photomultiplier with side window are used to reduce the space around the pipe. The method of two dimensional Laplace zero cross is used for image processing to enhance the detecting accuracy of thickness of pipe. The good results of detection in fieldwork are obtained smoothly.
