This paper reports experience in abdominal irrigation using 1:1000 Ampicillin Sol in the operation for perforated appendicitis in 45 children from Jan.1983 to Apr.1985 with a nonirrigation group of 63 cases as control. After irrigation complications were apparently decreased.Residual abscess in abdominal cavity was decreased from 17.46%to 4.44%.Secondary infectious rate of incision was decreased from 53.28%to 11.11%.Incidence of non-complete or complete intestinal obstruction was decreased from 11.0%to 2.2%.Treatment result is much improved. But it can't prevent residual abs-cess of abdominal cavity by putting cigarette drainage. If intestinal fistula occurs drainage should be put in abdominal cavity. After irrigation necessity of drainage in abdominal cavity can be decreased. Therefore we emphasize on careful sterile procedure and thorough irrigation, with which complication of perforated appendicitis can be further reduced.
