Galling of rotary shouldered thread connections is the usual failure style of drill pipe, which happened mostly on threads and shoulders.The analysis showed that galling failure was caused by large contact stress partly applied on rotary shouldered thread that made the materials local yield of the metal material and metal flow,metal flow of which lead galling in large scale. The galling is a comprehensive process mostly in relation to material composition,mechanical properties,thread parameter and size,and thread grease,make-up and break-down,field operation and so on.These factors would affect in a different ways in different combination on thread struc-ture.In order to control galling failure accidents,it is necessary to standardize strict inspection and field operation of dill pipe.
