Rock-socketed piles have been widely used in building piled wharfs for their high carrying capacity and good adaptability to geology. Based on the investigation of previous projects,it was decided to use the percussion boreholing tech-nology to build rock-socketed piles for a wharf. This paper introduced the design and manufacture of pile hammers,selection of pile driving machine rigs, debris discharge methods, operation process and implementation of the percussive boreholing technology. The project shows that by using the percussion boreholing technology to build rock-socketed piles,the construc-tion costs were cut down, the construction period was guaranteed and the quality of the works was ensured, which can be used widely in similar projects.
