边界具有构建国家身份、维护国家主权与安全、沟通国家间交往等功能，这些功能在不同时期其价值体现各有侧重。中印建交后，印度一方面与中国发展友好关系，但另一方面，从构建民族国家身份和国家安全战略考虑，印度在边界问题上态度强硬，频频采取单边主义行动，严重威胁中国国家主权与安全，由此导致边界冲突。随着全球经济一体化的发展和中印两国经济改革的深入，边界传统意义上的军事功能削弱，政治功能淡化，经贸交流功能突出，这在一定程度上促进了中印关系的缓和与发展。

Border has the function of building a national identity , safeguarding national sovereignty and security , and commu-nicating exchanges between the countries .These functions ’ value reflects have different emphases at different times .After the estab-lishment of diplomatic ties with China , India developed friendly relations with China on the one hand , on the other hand , India showed tough stance on border issues and frequently took unilateralism actions considering building the identity of the nation -state and the national security strategy , which seriously threatened China's national sovereignty and security and led to the border conflict . With the development of global economic integration and the deepening of economic reform in China and India , the border’s military functions weakened and political functions desalinated , and its functions of economic and trade exchanges became prominent , which promoted relaxation and development of Sino -Indian relations to some extent .
