This paper firstly summarizes the evolu-tion path of optical fiber communication, secondly studies the development trend of China industrial layout of optical fiber communication and analyzes the current major problems in optical fiber commu-nication market, thirdly identifies areas where Shanghai enjoys technical advantage, such as optical fiber equipment and optical fiber pre-form rods, on the basis of the current development trend of its op-tical fiber communication industry, and finally pro-vides prospects of Shanghai future development ob-jective of "City of Optical Fiber Network" against the background of China's Broadband Strategy and on the basis of China's market situation.
