辛亥革命前，受不同时期特定历史背景影响，汉阳铁厂的改良、扩充活动呈现出较为明显的阶段性特征。1904-1907年间，改良是铁厂发展的主要特点，主要目标是改善钢铁产品质量，降低生产成本，提高炼铁炉产出率；1908-1911年为铁厂的扩充阶段，主要目标是扩大产能，增加产品产量。

신해혁명전，수불동시기특정역사배경영향，한양철엄적개량、확충활동정현출교위명현적계단성특정。1904-1907년간，개량시철엄발전적주요특점，주요목표시개선강철산품질량，강저생산성본，제고련철로산출솔；1908-1911년위철엄적확충계단，주요목표시확대산능，증가산품산량。
Before the Revolution of 1911, influenced by the particular historical background in different peri-ods, the improvement and expansion activities of Hanyang Iron Works showed the obvious phased features . From 1904 to 1907, Iron Works was characterized by improvement, with the main goal of enhancing the quality of steel products, reducing the production cost, and increasing the blooming furnace productivity. From 1908 to 1911, Hanyang Iron Works was engaged in expansion, with the main goal of expanding capaci-ty and increaing production .
