This paper describes the FMEA (failure mode and effect analysis) definition, methods and significance. It focuses on the method and role of PFMEA. Through PFMEA applied in the axle assembly process, a detailed example is introduced to explain the application of PFMEA in the process preparation and quality control. In this instance, a detailed description of the meanings of severity (S), frequency (O), detectability (D) and their determination is present. The necessity and focus in the further use of PFMEA are elaborated. The importance of PFMEA is summarized to improve the technological level and product quality of enterprises.
