从知识生产者的角度来看，以新时期为界，戴厚英经历了与她同时代的知识分子大多走过的历程，即从“革命”改造型知识分子到“启蒙”反思型知识分子。新时期的戴厚英也同大多数知识分子一样，经历了一个身份重构的过程。但是，戴厚英又是独特的。她并不局限于倾诉知识分子所受到的伤害，而是反思知识分子的局限与困境，并寻求突破的可能性。戴厚英在小说中所展现的知识分子的矛盾与困境，不仅是那一代知识分子所共同要面对的，而且是整个现代性历程本身的矛盾与困境的体现。

From the knowledge of the producer’s perspective, the new era for the sector, Dai Houying experienced the same course with her most contemporary intellectuals, that is from the“revolutionary” reform intellectuals to“enlightenment” reflective intellectuals. As with most new era intellectuals, Dai Houying also has experienced an identity reconstruction process. However, Dai Houying is unique. She is not limited to talk about the harm suffered by intellectuals, but reflects on the limitations and difficulties of the intellectuals, and to seek a breakthrough possibility. Dai Houying demonstrated intellectual contradictions and difficulties in the novel, it is not only a generation of intellectuals to face in common, but of the whole history of modernity itself a manifestation of the contradictions and dilemmas.
