The author summarized the research progresses in genetics and breeding for rice resistance to brown planthopper (Nilaparvata lugens St?l.), including the biotypes of brown planthopper (BPH) and their identification methods, the life habit and control of BPH, the orientation of BPH-resistant genes in rice, and the application of BPH -resistant rice resources.
