Agricultural waste materials as a potential heavy metal ion adsorbent are usually composed of cellulose and lignin as the main constituents. This paper reviews several agricultural waste materials and its modified forms as adsorbents for the removal of heavy metals from aqueous solutions. The adsorption mechanisms and the influences, such as pH, initial heavy metal ions concentrations, adsorbent dosage and reaction temperature, on the adsorption of modified agricultural wastes were discussed as well. What's more, applying prospect of modified agricultural waste materials in waste water treat-ment is also presented.
