The operating principle of self-contained tide gauge is introduced so as to explain the impact of seawater density on its seawater depth measurement precision,analyze the applicability of conventional method which is used to calculate seawater density,and clarify the variance of seawater density caused by the changes of temperature,salinity and depth. Therefore,it is proposed to adopt depth correlation method to determine the density of seawater.
