应用型本科教育是高等教育的重要组成部分。培养应用性、复合性和创新型人才，对于应用型本科教育具有十分重要的意义。以湖南人文科技学院自动化专业建设为例，从人才培养目标定位与专业建设思路、教学计划制定、课程群建设、实验室建设、学科竞赛、产学研基地建设等方面，研究地方本科院校自动化专业应用型人才的培养模式，提出了自动化专业人才培养方案，并在实践中进行了应用。
