This paper presents an in-depth field study on the causes of dropout phenomenon in a minority rural area in Yunnan province . The study is based on the role conflicts that individual student would be facing in their complicated roles , revealing the pushing and pulling factors in the process of students dropping out of school ,as well as the factors of reverse thrust and counter pull through the field study .It is of great significance in promoting our country's task of “controlling dropout” , and improving the quality of rural education .
