Objective To investigate the relationship between atherogenic index of plasma, carotid intima-media thickness and ischemic stroke. Methods Intima-media thickness(IMT)were examined with color Doppler ultrasound in 70 patients with ischemic stroke confirmed by cranial CT and(or)MRI and 70 subjects for health examination as controls;the level of triglycer-ide(TG),total cholesterol(TC),low-density lipoprotein cholesterol(LDL-C),high density lipo-protein cholesterol(HDL-C) were detected for all subjects and atherogenic index of plasma(AIP)were determined in 70 patients with ischemic stroke and 70 subj ects as controls. Results The levels of IMT,TC,TG,LDL-C and AIP increased significantly in patients with ischemic stroke, and the levels of HDL-C decreased significantly(P<0.05).IMT was correlated with AIP(r=0.514,P=0.001).Con-clusion The development of ischemic stroke is closely correlated with the carotid IMT and AIP.
