玉米生产的发展将增大对玉米生产机械的需求，玉米生产机械化将是我国农业机械化一个新的增长点。2行自走式玉米收获机的不断发展和成熟，提高了农业机械的发展水平，促进了农业产业调整，有利于农民增收和节省资源。玉米割台是玉米收获机完成摘穗作业的核心装置，其功能是将果穗和茎秆分离，其工作环境的好坏直接影响到机器的作业质量。为此，通过查阅国内外资料和分析国内玉米割台存在的问题，设计了割台整体和部分的结构方案，完成了图纸绘制和安装试验等任务。
