语言是文化的一部分，学习语言必须了解目的语的文化背景知识。论文从五个方面探讨了大学英语教学中文化背景知识拓展的具体途径，为全面提高大学生的英语文化背景知识，增强学生的阅读理解能力和跨文化语用能力提供借鉴。

As language is part of culture, so if people want to learn a foreign language, they should learn about the cultural background of the target language beforehand. This article focused on the specific methods on how to expand students’ cultural background information, aiming at inhancing students’ English cultural background infromation and improving their reading comrehension and intercultural progmatic competence from al respects.
