为了阐释隐喻理解的理据，以英文报刊杂志上收集的隐喻表达为语料，对隐喻映射过程的三个特征，即隐喻映射的选择性、不对称性和特征突现性进行了分析。研究发现：喻体到本体的映射是一个混合机制；本体在选择过程中限定映射原则并将映射的特征在本体域内运用；本体与喻体就某一特征表现出来的不同程度的突显性决定了隐喻映射的不对称性。此外，突现特征的研究证明了两域映射模型很难解释新奇隐喻。
為瞭闡釋隱喻理解的理據，以英文報刊雜誌上收集的隱喻錶達為語料，對隱喻映射過程的三箇特徵，即隱喻映射的選擇性、不對稱性和特徵突現性進行瞭分析。研究髮現：喻體到本體的映射是一箇混閤機製；本體在選擇過程中限定映射原則併將映射的特徵在本體域內運用；本體與喻體就某一特徵錶現齣來的不同程度的突顯性決定瞭隱喻映射的不對稱性。此外，突現特徵的研究證明瞭兩域映射模型很難解釋新奇隱喻。

To explore the generation of metaphorical meanings, analyses were made of the three characteristics of metaphorical mapping which are of great significance to the compre-hension of metaphor: selectivity, asymmetry, and emergence of properties. The analysis of the collected data from English newspapers and magazines indicates that the mapping from tenor to vehicle is a mixed mechanism. Metaphor tenor constrains the selection of the map-pability principles and applies mapped properties in its domain. The different degree of prominence concerning a given property in tenor and vehicle determines the asymmetry of metaphorical mapping. In addition, the two-domain mapping model is not plausible to expli-cate the emergence of new properties in the vehicle domain and novel metaphors in partic-ular.
