沈辽与以苏轼为代表的宋代士人不同，他既在精神上与陶渊明契合，又在形迹上仿效之，最终走上了归隐的道路。沈辽与陶渊明的归隐都受道家委运任化思想的影响，表现出较大的相似性。但沈辽参杂着道教的以归隐求长生不老的思想，这与陶渊明坚持朴素唯物主义自然观与无神论有所不同。
침료여이소식위대표적송대사인불동，타기재정신상여도연명계합，우재형적상방효지，최종주상료귀은적도로。침료여도연명적귀은도수도가위운임화사상적영향，표현출교대적상사성。단침료삼잡착도교적이귀은구장생불로적사상，저여도연명견지박소유물주의자연관여무신론유소불동。
Shen Liao is different from SuShi .Shen Liao is not only same as TaoYuanming in the spiritual life , but also take his track after TaoYuanming to become a recluse .It is the thought of Taoism affected both of them .Shen Liao, unlike Tao Yuan-ming who insisted on the view of native materialism and atheistic thought , though that Taoists can make human life forever , which is different from the view of TaoYuanming .
