商务合同是与签约双方当事人经济利益挂钩，以其专业严谨性和逻辑性法律语句来明确各自权利及义务的一类专门经济文体。双方当事人在合同的签署过程中起了重要作用，其中的人际意义值得深究。合同的话语基调在某种程度上体现了签约双方间的人际意义，情态手段是话语基调的一种语法化体现方式。情态手段是否翻译恰当决定了其翻译文本质量的好坏。因此，基于商务合同的一些翻译实例数据，该文将着眼回答三个主要问题：（1）话语基调与情态手段的关系是什么？（2）商务合同是如何使用情态手段来体现话语基调？（3）译者如何恰当翻译这些情态手段的表达方式？完成以上三个问题的分析后，一些相关合同中情态手段的翻译建议也将被提出，以期使合同话语基调翻译更为精确。

Business contracts belong to a type of specialized economic writing concerning economic interest of two parties in-volved, defining the rights and obligations in a professionally precise and logical legal language. As two parties make a great differ-ence on contracts signing, the interpersonal meaning implied in contracts is worth studying. To some extent, tenor in contracts re-flects interpersonal meaning between the two parties. The translation of modality determines the quality of the translated texts. On the basis of some practical business contract examples and data, principally, the following three questions are put forward:( 1) What is the relationship between tenor and modality? (2)How to reflect business contract tenor with modality? (3) What should a translator do to properly translate the modality expressions? Thereafter, to accurately translate tenor in business contracts, some ad-vice relating to modality is also offered.
