Goodman提出“全语言”,指出语言是整体的,由语意、语形、语用组成,不可分割。“全语言”教学法用于教学,改变了传统的英语教学方式,它注重根据学生的情况对其进行相应的英语教学,增加了语言和现实生活的距离,提高了学生的学习兴趣,在高校的英语教学中起着越来越大的作用。

Goodman proposed Whole Language aims to develop a language study including the graphophonic, syntactic, semantic and pragmatic aspects of language. Within a whole language perspective, language is treated as a complete meaning-making system. Its application to teaching has changed the traditional teaching method because it focuses on students’ needs, shortening the distance of language and real life, the students' interest in English learning, so it plays a more and more important part in college learning and teaching.
