自索绪尔提出语言符号的任意性属性，并将其确立为第一原则以来，语言学界从未停止过对该原则的思考、批判甚至否定。本文通过探讨索绪尔语言符号任意性原则的本质属性，指出任意性原则的理解必须弄清索绪尔界定的语言符号的能指和所指以及语言符号本身和符号与符号之间所处的不同层次的关系，从而说明索绪尔对任意性原则的强调，并不等于对符号可论证性的忽略，非任意性的存在并不能构成对任意性的否定。

Since Saussure to put forward the arbitrariness of language symbols and attributes, established as the first principle, linguists have never stopped to think critically on the principle and negation. The essence of Saussure theory of the arbitrariness of linguistic signs, points out that arbitrariness of language symbols understanding must figure out Saussure defined to different levels of relationship between the signifier and the signified of language symbols and signs, which shows Saussure to emphasis on the arbitrariness, does not mean that the symbols can be ignored, the existence of non arbitrary cannot constitute a denial of arbitrariness.
