A novel way for measuring the focal length of the thin lens by parallel light is provided based on the character of focal plane and secondary optical axis. This parallel light in the method is not the light parallel to the main optical axis but secondary optical axis. This method can help us to understand and apply the axis,side axis,focal plane of thin lens and optical concepts,and to further understand the paraxial imaging meaning.
