A spectrophotometric method for determination of the palladium in the catalyst for synthesis of methyl propionate from ethylene by carbonylation was established based on the fact that Pd+and I-might form a red complex. The method was accurate, simple and fast. The sample recovery was 95%-103%;the linear range was 0μg/mL-10.20μg/mL; and the relative standard deviation was 0.34%.
