DNA Barcoding as a method for rapid and accurate species identification based on a standard and short DNA fragments has become one of hotspots of species identification and biodiversity research in the past few years. Currently, DNA barcoding is widely used in genetic diversity as a core issue in biodiversity research. The development, principles, standard gene fragments, and steps of DNA barcodes are described, focusing on the application of DNA barcoding in the study of biological taxonomy and genetic diversity. The research prospects, significance of its application and limitations are discussed.
