区域医疗协同是解决各医疗机构之间医疗资源交换与共享的有效途径，对优化配置医疗卫生资源、降低协同成本、推动区域医疗协同服务新模式具有重要意义。根据不同地域的实际情况，区域医疗协同服务采用不同的协同模式，首先对三种区域医疗协同服务模式进行了详细探讨，然后对区域医疗协同服务实现时需要突破的共性关键技术提供了解决思路，包括异构医疗数据交换、医院对外服务接口、患者标识交叉索引和医疗数据安全与隐私保护技术等。
