The Golden Lotus and The Merchant of Venice were both published in the 17th century, they were extraordinary works in the international literary history. The protagonists Xi-Men Qing and Shylock both have special social-status,which were closely connected with the certain social background. Through the analysis of the distinguishing feature of the specific social-background,we could discern the differences between the rising-businessmen and the old-businessman. From the cross-cultural perspective,we summarize the same kind of paradigmatic Outlines of the status of the businessman in the certain historical period;Last but not least,we summarize the indivisible connections between the merchants’status and economic development.
