The steps for measuring the content of free phenol in the amberwood with the UV spectrophotometry method are introduced. In this method, phenol is extracted with a steam distillation method, after which the UV spectrophotometry is used to determine the content of phenol. The result shows that there is a linear relationship between phenol concentration and absorbance in the case of 269.70-nanometer wave length and 0-160μg/mL phenol concentration, which provides a new method for determination of the content of free phenol in the plywood.
