The reconstruction project site, where is located on mountain area in west GuiZhou province, is covered by the fluvial deposition above coal measure strata. The conditions of the project site are extremely complex, leading to many options of foundation. Based on the actual conditions of the site and combined with the specific work completed by all parties involved with the reconstruction project, three principles for selecting foundation type have been put up with. That is, the principle of differentiation, the principle of reliability and the principle of economic effectiveness. Through the special investigation for fault and coal and service provided by design institute during construction, the proposed foundation has been successively adopted, with good results achieved and experience accumulated.
