Two-section closing technology of wicket gate, as a protection measure for turbine, can prevent the turbine damage due to the raising water hammer pressure caused by fast closing of wicket gate when emergency stop of flow passing components and can prevent the lifting of turbine due to water backflushing caused by excessive vacuum de-gree of tail water when rapid shutdown. The paper discusses the application of new two-section closing technology in turbine through the successful innovation of the turbine for Xiaqiao hydropower station.
