公共安全问题已经成为政府和人民必须面对和解决的一个迫切问题。化学是现代科学的中心，是发现和创造的科学，是支撑国家安全和国民经济发展的科学。化学在公共安全领域的运用十分广泛，开设公共选修课化学与公共安全，对于摆正化学的学科地位，加强学生的公共安全教育，提高学生的科学素养，具有重要的现实意义。本课程以社会广泛关注的有关化学与公共安全问题为视点，主要介绍化学药品的管理、化学实验室安全与意外事故的处理、侦查与化学、禁毒与化学、消防与化学、反恐与化学、警用装备与化学、食品安全与化学、公共卫生安全与化学等，剖析相关案例，并从教学形式、教学方法和考核办法进行了初步的探讨。

Public safety has become an important problem which the government and the people must face up to and solve as soon as possible.Chemistry is not only center of modern science,but also science of dis-covery and creativity and of sustentation national safety and national economy development.Chemistry plays a strictly utilitarian role in the field of public safety.Creation of public elective courses of Chemistry and Public Safety has important practical significance in order to place station of chemical discipline,to strengthen public safety education for students and to improve students'scientific attainments.The curric-ulum of Chemistry and Public Safety is the focus of social attention on the chemistry and public safety problem.This curriculum introduces management of chemical medicine,safety of chemical laboratory and transaction of contingency,detection investigation and chemistry,prohibition of opium and chemistry,fire protection and chemistry,anti-terrorism and chemistry,equipment for alarm and chemistry,food safety and chemistry,public health safety and chemistry,and so on.The forms and methods of teaching and ex-aminational means are preliminary discussed.
