丧乱诗起于《诗经》，在汉末动乱中长足发展，唐代中后期发展至后人难以企及的高峰。古代丧乱诗的独特价值，在于它让读者认识到中华民族曾经多灾多难，因此应该倍加珍惜民族和睦、团结发展的新时代；其直面现实的精神和创作方法、对社会动乱与人民丧亡凄惨景象的白描及其浅显而富于表现力的语言等，构成了古代丧乱诗十分鲜明的艺术特色。
