大学教育模式不断改革创新，全国各高校陆续创建创新班教学模式，中国石油大学（北京）也创建了创新计划实验班。创新班以及类似性质的大学班级针对学习成绩优异的学生重点培养，制定单独的培养方案。这种培养模式很大程度上促进学生的学习、竞赛能力的提升，但与此同时也带来了一定的问题，部分学生对于学习以外的事务不感兴趣，对班级建设工作缺乏关注，对班级的发展不够关心，这给创新班的管理工作带来较大阻碍。
