在语篇语言学中，衔接是语篇连贯建构中最重要的一种手段。通过语法衔接和词汇衔接，小句相互串联构成连贯的语篇。虽然各种衔接手段在英汉语篇中同时存在，但它们的使用方法和出现频率相差甚大，处理不当便会影响译文质量。本文以衔接理论为基础，选取塞缪尔·斯迈尔斯的散文《以书为友》，对比分析两个中文译本对原文衔接机制的处理，以期指导翻译实践。

Cohesion is the most important device to construct textual coherence in text linguistics. With grammatical and lexical cohesive devices, clauses are linked tightly to form coherent texts. Though both English and Chinese possess the same types of cohesive devices, they differ greatly in usage and frequency. If translated improperly, the quality of translation will be affected. Based on cohesion theory, this paper aims to analyze contrastively the processing of cohesive devices in two Chinese versions of Companionship of Books by Samuel Smiles, and tries to seek guidance for our translating practice.
