沈从文的湘西系列小说中，反复叙事的手法运用的比较多，而在《长河》中尤其突出。《长河》中这种反复叙事手法的运用，体现出了沈从文所要表现的“常”与“变”，表现出沈从文的国家认同、地方志书写以及对于湘西系列小说作总结的趋势，不仅如此，这种手法的运用，也构成他没能写完这部小说的原因之一。

In Shen cong-wen’s native novels about West Hunan ,the technique of repetition were been used many times ,especially in The Long River .In The Long River ,repetition ,the skill of which was been used repeatedly ,reflec-ted‘Constancy’ and‘Changing’ which Shen Cong-wen wanted to show ,expressed Shen cong-wen’s national identity , writing of local chronicle and the tendency of summarizing the native novels about West Hunan ,what’s more ,this tech-nique became one of the reasons why Shen cong-wen was not able to finish the novel .
