This paper brielfy introduced the Department of Ceramics of Tokyo Institute of Technology (TIT) and the early evolvement (before 1953) of Jingdezhen Ceramic Institute (JCI). A list of early JCI teachers who had studied in TIT was made based on the alumni association list of members of Department of Ceramics of TIT. An explanation was provided about the undocumented and/or the contradictory parts found in the literatures. It‘s concluded:most of the early JCI teachers had studied in Japan. All the presidents of early JCI had graduated from the Department of Ceramics of TIT except Zou Junzhang. The students from the Department of Ceramics of TIT such as Zhang Hao, Zou Rugui, Zhang Jinan, Shu Xinwei, Du Chongyuan, Wang Fan, Dai Liangchai, etc. had greatly influenced the ceramic education and the ceramic industry, and made signiifcant contributions to the early development of JCI. Then, some opinions were given on further exploration of the early history of JCI to tap into the rich heritage and great prestige of this school of a hundred years in an effort to build it into a distinctive and inlfuential university of the world.
