“译东籍”是清末文人学习日语的直接目的。快速掌握日语，运用日语进行翻译实践，借助译书，介绍和普及开启民智的先进科学文化知识，是时代赋予清末爱国知识分子的特殊历史使命。林长民进入杭州日文学堂学习日语，主编《译林》，翻译《西力东侵史》。他在日语学习过程中，急于翻译练笔；编译时又力求精简。通过林长民的译作，我们可以了解林长民的翻译观点及手法，一窥清末人们学习日语的目的及“东籍”的翻译特征。

The direct aim for the people to learn Japanese is was translate the Japanese books in the late Qing dynasty .It's the special time that made the people who were knowledgeable and patriotic in pursuit of translating .By doing that , people in that time could introduce and popularize the advanced science and culture in Japan .Lin Changmin who was the chief editor of Yilin and Xilidongqingshi studied Japanese in Hangzhou Japanese School .He was urgently translating Japanese when learning it .He also tried to make the translation smart .By reading the translation of Lin Changmin , we can see his opinions and means in trans-lating.We can know the aims of the people who learnt Japanese during the end of Qing dynasty and the translational characters of the Japanese books .
