The major power supply method in Kenya is by hydropower, followed by thermal generation and geothermal generation. Since 2013, the government of Kenya has encouraged to explore the clean energy, with biomass power generation and wind power developing on a small scale. The Ministry of Energy and Petroleum of Kenya regard wind power, geothermal energy, solar energy, as well as hydroelectric power, among other low cost, low carbon emission green energy as priorities in the future, in order to reduce the dependence on hydroelectric power and high cost of fossil fuel power generation.
