Objective To analyze the correlation between height change and bone mineral density of the lumbar vertebrae in women with primary osteoporosis. Methods One hundred and thirty-two women with osteoporosis were selected. The present height of all the patients was measured. The changes of height were calculated by comparing with their height at 25-30 years old. Meanwhile, the bone mineral density ( BMD) was detected for correlation analysis, and the scatter diagram was also depicted. Results Along with the decrease of BMD of the lumbar vertebrae, the decrease of the height accumulated compared with the height when they were young. And along with the increase of age, their height shortened gradually. But by adopting the method of SPSS11.5 Spearman correlation coefficient, a P>0.05 was observed, showing no significant difference, which also indicated there was no signifianct correlation between the height change and BMD of the lumbar vertebrae in 132 women with osteoporosis in this study. Conclusion There is no signifianct correlation between the height change and BMD of the lumbar vertebrae in 132 women with osteoporosis in Tianjin. There are various factors affecting the change of human height, and the measurement error also exists at the same time. So, a respective measurement of the length of the trunk or the limbs should be performed when analyzing the correlation between height and BMD, in order to improve the accuracy.
