The authors have studied the performance evaluation mechanisms of National Science Foundation in developed countries. Main contents,such as background,legal basis,selection of experts,evaluation methods and process,evalua-tion results and its application,etc. of those laboratories are summarized and analyzed in this paper. Moreover,the enlight-enment to performance evaluation of National Science Foundation of China is investigated in the final.
