20世纪的中国山水画打破了＂四王＂保守思想在山水画坛的统治地位,山水画重新焕发出生机。各地的山水画派层出不穷,山水画家们进行了各种形式的复兴运动,在某些方面取得了很大的突破,涌现出了黄宾虹、张大千、傅抱石、李可染、陆俨少等山水画大师。但是,20世纪以来的中国山水画也出现了很多的问题,由于对山水画传统的蔑视,中国山水画的笔墨美、写意性等美学思想被西化的写实所取代,中国文人山水画的传承脉络已经断代。20世纪发展到当代,已经跌入山水画发展的最低谷。

Chinese landscape painting in the 20th century broke through the dominant position of the conser- vative ideas of ＂Four Wangs＂（Wang Shimin, Wang Jian, Wang Hui and Wang Yuanqi in Qing Dynasty） in land- scape painting circle in 20th century and had a renewed vigor. All over the country, landscape painting schools e- merged one after another, while painters conducted the revival movements in various forms and achieved a great breakthrough in some aspects. Many eminent landscape painters, such as Huang Binhong, Zhang Daqian, Fu Banshi, Li Keran and Lu Yanshao, etc. came to the fore. However, there have been many problems since the 20th century. Due to the contempt of the traditional landscape painting, the aesthetic ideology, such as the painting beauty and freehand brushwork, have been substituted by Westernized realistic painting, so the inheritance vein of landscape painting is hard to be passed on. From the 20th century to contemporary, the landscape painting dropped into the lowest level in its development.
