The present situation of rural afforestatiou in Changshu city were described from some aspects including iuadequate total afforestation, unreasonable distribution, low afforestation level and the hysteretie construction and management system. Then five key attentions were put fin＇ward to provide helpful references for new rural afforestation construction, such as pay attention to urban-rural integrated, tree species selection, local eharacteristies, economic benefit, long-term management and so on.
