新年画运动是新中国成立以来第一场声势浩大的美术运动,新年画与新中国图像形成了复杂的互文关系。这种从外部改造艺术发展规律、改造民俗,同时也改造艺术家的运动对以后的美术发展产生了重大影响。它构建了民族想象的共同体,表现了共产党人领导的新政权的现代性诉求。新年画运动追求艺术的功利性,付出了牺牲艺术自律、损毁传统民间信仰的巨大代价。
