In order to determine the soil matric suction accurately and timely, a soil tension sensor with sample structure and low cost was designed based on soil tensionmeter and according to electric resistance strain theory. The sensor calibration and the error analysis show that the sensor possesses the advantage of high precision and sensitivity, and it is capable of meeting the design requirement.
