The history of strong motion monitoring for seismic safety work in hydraulic structures in China is reviewed.The strong motion safety monitoring in hydraulic structures is divided into three phases,and the characteristics at each phase are described.On the basis of the review,the major developments of strong motion safety monitoring technology in hydraulic structures in China are summarized.Finally,possible existing problems and suggestions for future work are proposed.
